Mobile application and API security firm Approov has raised £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) in a Series A funding round.
The new investment round was led by Investment Fund for Scotland, with additional support from Souter Investments, and previous investors Lanza techVentures and Scottish Enterprise.
Founded in 2012, Edinburgh, Scotland-based Approov provides patented mobile attestation solutions that protect mobile applications and APIs against modern threats in real time.
The security firm provides runtime protections to secure devices, apps, APIs, and the channels used to communicate with the cloud, as well as real-time threat analytics to deliver visibility into mobile application security.
Through real-time attestation across iOS, Android, and HarmonyOS, it can prevent emulators, rooted devices, tampering frameworks, man-in-the-middle attacks, and bots from exploiting mobile apps.
Approov helps organizations to ensure that only apps running in safe environments over secured connections can access backend resources, and enables them to easily manage app secrets and API keys in the cloud.
It also supports integration with CI/CD pipelines, allows customers to enforce fine-grained device integrity checks and frequent app authentication, and helps prevent vulnerability exploitation with over-the-air updates.
Approov will use the new funding to expand its research and development team in Edinburgh, to focus on solutions that protect mobile apps from evolving threats.
“As the threat landscape continues to evolve, developers and enterprises alike are recognizing that mobile app security cannot be an afterthought. This funding marks a pivotal moment in our mission to ensure that every mobile app instance is authenticated and that backend APIs are protected from fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access,” Approov CEO Ted Miracco said.
