The North American arm of South Korea-based automotive IT services firm Hyundai AutoEver has disclosed a data breach resulting from a hacker attack that targeted the company earlier this year.

Hyundai Autoever is the in-house IT and software company for the Hyundai Motor Group, which owns the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis car brands. Hyundai Autoever employs more than 6,000 people worldwide.

The data breach impacted Hyundai AutoEver America (HAEA), which is based in Orange County, California.

In data breach notices sent to impacted individuals and submitted to state authorities, HAEA said it detected an intrusion in its IT environment on March 1, 2025. An investigation showed that hackers had access to its systems since February 22 and the company said they were kicked out by March 2.

The probe showed that the threat actor had gained access to personal information stored on compromised systems, but it could not confirm whether the information was exfiltrated. The exposed information includes names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers.

Hyundai AutoEver America has submitted data breach notices to authorities in several US states, including Maine, where one individual was impacted, and Massachusetts, where seven people were affected.

While the company has not shared the total number of affected individuals, these disclosures suggest that a relatively small number of people are impacted.

It’s unclear who was behind the attack on HAEA. No known ransomware group appears to have taken credit for the attack.
