EU Sets February Deadline for Verdict on Google’s $32B Wiz Acquisition

The record-breaking deal has already received a green light from the US government. The post EU Sets February Deadline for Verdict on Google’s $32B Wiz Acquisition appeared first on SecurityWeek.

Google acquires Wiz

The European Union is conducting a high-stakes antitrust review into Google’s record-breaking acquisition of cloud security giant Wiz, setting a preliminary decision deadline for February 10, 2026.

The $32 billion acquisition, one of the eight cybersecurity M&A deals exceeding $1 billion in 2025, passed an antitrust review in the United States in November 2025.

Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport noted at the time that other regulatory hurdles would need to be cleared before the deal is completed.

“We look forward to completing the review process in other jurisdictions,” Google said at the time, noting that the acquisition is expected to close in 2026.

The company has maintained that while Wiz will enable it to expand and enhance its own capabilities, Wiz products will remain accessible across all major cloud platforms, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

Despite these claims, there are concerns that under Google Cloud ownership, Wiz’s neutrality will vanish, forcing customers deeper into the internet giant’s ecosystem.

Additionally, Wiz continuing to support other major cloud platforms could give Google visibility into its rivals.

The European Commission is currently conducting a Phase I investigation and has set an initial deadline of February 10, 2026, to decide whether to clear the deal (unconditionally or subject to conditions) or escalate to a Phase II investigation.

According to the Commission’s website, 90% of cases are resolved in Phase I. However, given the size and importance of the deal, the EU could decide that a more in-depth analysis is required, which typically adds 4-5 months to the timeline.

Google is reportedly [paywalled link] on the hook for a $3.2 billion breakup fee to Wiz.

SecurityWeek tracked more than 420 cybersecurity M&A deals in 2025. A detailed report will be published in the coming weeks.
