The French telecommunications giant Orange said its IT systems were recently targeted in a cyberattack that resulted in service disruptions.
In a statement published on its website, the company said the attack was detected on July 25 and its security team, assisted by the Orange Cyberdefense unit, rushed to isolate affected systems in an effort to limit impact.
Orange’s response to the hacker attack led to some management services and platforms for corporate and individual customers being disrupted, particularly in France. Services are expected to be restored by July 30.
The company has found no evidence to date that customer or corporate information has been exfiltrated.
Authorities have been notified. Orange said it would not be sharing any additional information on the incident.
In February, a hacker claimed to have stolen several gigabytes of data from Orange systems, particularly files pertaining to Orange Romania. The compromised files appeared to include customer and employee information, contracts, invoices, source code, and hundreds of thousands of email addresses.
Orange at the time confirmed a breach, but claimed a non-critical application had been impacted.
A few weeks later, the Babuk ransomware group also claimed to have hacked Orange and was offering to sell stolen data. However, Orange said the information did not appear new — they were likely the same files that were stolen in the attack that came to light in February.
