Wytec Expects Significant Financial Loss Following Website Hack

Wytec’s website was defaced twice by unknown threat actors more than a week ago and it has yet to be brought back online. The post Wytec Expects Significant Financial Loss Following Website Hack appeared first on SecurityWeek.

Texas-based communications and safety solutions provider Wytec International, Inc. expects significant financial losses as a result of a cyberattack targeting its website.

The company has informed the SEC that the incident occurred on August 25, when hackers defaced the company’s website. The site was restored from backups after the hack was discovered, but the attackers defaced it once again.

Wytec provides gunshot detection and drug sensing solutions, as well as indoor cellular services. The company says its solutions are used in the education, healthcare, and government sectors.

It’s unclear who is behind the cyberattack. The company told the SEC that it “has received no contact from the bad actor, nor is it aware of any reason for this attack”.

The website has been taken down while Wytec is conducting a review of its entire web platform and implementing extra security measures to prevent other attacks.

The site is still offline at the time of writing, displaying an under maintenance message.

The FBI has been notified of the incident and the company has called in forensic specialists to assist with the investigation.

“As a result of this incident, in addition to losses arising from the website being inoperable, the Company was forced to cancel a seminar scheduled for September 2, 2025,” Wytec said. “The financial losses from this incident are difficult to quantify at this point, but will likely be significant.”
